The Truth

BET’s newest News program will focus on the most important issues concerning the Black community in a fresh new way. THE TRUTH WITH JEFF JOHNSON is a hard-hitting, half-hour show that will deliver a varied and vibrant view of the news while examining the issues from an editorial, investigative and cultural perspective.

Tune in Friday at 11 p.m. (ET/PT) for the series premiere.

THE TRUTH, a weekly show aired in front of a live audience, will take a look at news, trends, pop culture, current events and politics from an honest Black point of view. This show has no barriers, as it is conducted to show others the real view of the Black community by informing and entertaining the viewers all at the same time.

Not only will Johnson give his audience a view of Black culture through news, he will do it in a way that will keep his viewers engaged and excited. The show will include talk, investigating reporting, and one-on-one interviews with leading newsmakers. You won’t just get the issues of the day; you’ll see the emotional side of some of the most controversial stories through a three-way debate conducted by Johnson and a segment that compiles multiple stories of the Black community.

I’m a little late on this apparently since it premiered last night. I figured I’d go ahead and post this though to let anyone else, who was outta the loop like me, know about this new show.

This is most definitely a good look for BET. I hadn’t been much of a fan of BET for a while now. I’m not sayin all their shows are trash, I find myself tuning in for Rap City or 106 & Park sometimes. But, they definitely are lacking as far as meaningful content goes. Hopefully we’ll see more shows like this popping up that attempt to inform the black community on issues going on.

Majority Minorities

Ethnic and racial minorities will comprise a majority of the national population in a little more than a generation, according to new Census Bureau projections, a transformation that is occurring faster than anticipated just a few years ago.

The census calculates that by 2042, Americans who identify themselves as Hispanic, black, Asian, American Indian, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander will together outnumber non-Hispanic whites. Four years ago, officials had projected the shift would come in 2050.

A new majority, now that might be a good look. What do you think?  How do you things could change when whites are no longer the actual majority in America?

Lil Wayne

With almost 2 million records sold with his latest offering Tha Carter 3, might Lil’ Wayne still be facing money troubles?

A Miami-Dade Circuit Court judge ordered Wayne to pay a New Orleans jeweler $146,000 for a diamond ring and necklace which he purchased in 2006, and had only made on 24,000.00 payment on. Now I’m not rich, but I understand that a lot of people with money also have a lot of “credit” and so missing payments, not paying, etc happen all of the time. However the more interesting piece of this is the fact that according to a May 6 notice of federal tax lien filed with Miami-Dade County Wayne owes close to a million dollars ($977,840.81 to be exact) in unpaided taxes to the IRS. So many lines are running through my head regarding this situation, but I leave you a gem from the OTHER Mr. Carter….

“I’LL SHOW YOU HOW TO DO THIS SON…. Pay ya taxes, you niggaz husttlin’ backwards”

Cullen Jones

Bronx-born swimmer Cullen Jones didn’t just help power the U.S. relay swim team to Olympic gold - he just may have shattered the stereotype that blacks can’t swim.

Although Jones isn’t the first African-American swimmer to make the Olympic squad (he’s the third), or the first to win a gold medal (he’s the second), he figured in one of the most exciting races in sports history.

And that thriller will be replayed on Olympic highlight reels for generations to come. “I hope this exposure from the race today, a kid can see this and say, ‘Wow, a black swimmer - and he’s got a gold medal,’ ” Jones, 24, said. “The stigma that black people don’t swim ended today.”

Now Jones, who hopes to channel his Olympic success and good looks into a modeling career, is devoting himself to a foundation he started aimed at helping minority-group members learn to swim - and compete. He is dating Olympic swimmer Maritza Correia, and he still swims six hours a day, seven days a week.

Jones said blacks can swim as well as anybody. “Not many black people played golf before Tiger Woods,” he said.

This was a crazy race. For anyone who didn’t get to see, he was swimming for the US in the 4×100 meter relay. His team won the gold medal and also broke the world record time. Hopefully this will get more black american athletes into swimming and other predominantly white sports.
