That is an ugly piece of jewelry and it doesn’t have much to do with pirates, but I don’t think it is racist at all. Are ships racists because black slaves were brought over in them? Are chains racist because black slaves were kept in them? Are whips racist because black slaves were punished with them? I think people are just trying to find things to be mad about.

Yes I understand that 50 years ago people would form mobs and hang people simply because of their skin color. That was horrible, but it’s silly to get mad at the appearance of a noose. I’ve always associated the noose with the executioner in Robin Hood tales. Only recently have I started associating the noose with lynch mobs, and that’s only because the media has made a big deal about it.

If I took a noose and flashed it at you and said “Get out of here you …”, then it would be understandable for you to get mad. If I have a noose hanging from my doorknob, then the reaction shouldn’t be any different than if I had a small guillotine on my desk.

To um, more people in general associate hanging with the lynching of black people 50 years ago, if you only know this much about historical sociology.

That pic almost works, but in hangman, you say a letter, you get all of them, so there should be two G’s.
